DESCRIPTION:As a projected human extinction event\, the 'next pandemic' ha
s come to generate a new cinematic figure: the epidemiologist as culture h
ero. This seminar examines motion pictures having as their central theme t
he 'coming plague' so as to show how the epidemiologist is cinematically c
onstituted as responsible for the repastoralisation and repasteurisation o
f humanity – a goal achieved by setting self-limitation of individual fr
eedoms as the condition for the biological and ontological perseverance of
  humankind.
