from falling over - Kaoru Yamamoto

DESCRIPTION:For seismic design\, the installation of vibration control dev
ices between floors is widely accepted. As the vibration suppression perfo
rmance of the entire building highly depends on these devices\, it is impo
rtant to understand how they affect the dynamics of the building. \n\nIn t
his talk\, a vibration control problem of a chain of masses with base exci
tation will be introduced in a context of seismic design. The main objecti
ve is to limit the intermass displacement (inter-storey displacement in a
building) and the frequency domain analysis is used to approach this probl
em. It will be shown that the maximum value of the frequency responses fro
m a ground displacement to the inter-storey displacements remain bounded a
 s the building gets taller.
