DESCRIPTION:Progress monitoring is an important process during the constru
ction phase of a project. Accurate assessment of progress allows managers
to make adjustments to minimise costs when deviations from the schedule oc
cur. Current practices of predicting the performance of a construction tea
m require inspections that are still mainly manual\, time consuming and ca
n contain errors. Improper understanding of the current status can lead to
further errors and unsuitable adjustments by the managing team\, leading
to more delays and increased cost. The problem is amplified when inspectio
ns take place in interior environments where the tasks are more complex. T
hus\, an efficient real-time progress monitoring system is needed to autom
ate progress inspections\, reducing the risks of error\, facilitating prop
er and timely corrective actions\, and preventing deviations in terms of c
ost and schedule. Although many researchers have proposed promising approa
ches for progress monitoring in outdoor scenes\, these cannot shift into t
he complex interior environments. Research efforts for indoor environments
are still premature and not fully automated. An automated progress monito
ring framework will be presented\, that uses an easy to use Mobile Augment
ed Reality System that can be used for inspections in indoor environments.
