DESCRIPTION:Noise Solution is a 6 year old Social Enterprise that eschews
grant funding and operates on 100% earned income - it's sustainable. To do
that we need to be able to prove to our customers (statutory organisation
s like mental health or social services) that our arts interventions deliv
er value to them. We need to be able to communicate success in a language
that those organisations understand. I'll be discussing what lessons were
drawn from 15 years working in the front line of youth work\, how we took
those lessons to develop an innovative model that brings together music te
chnology and social media to engage and progress those that those agencies
struggle to engage with and most importantly how we collate the impacts o
f that work and present those successes (and failures) to our 'customers'.
\n\n*Simon Glenister* founded Noise Solution in 2009 to use music technolo
gy to create social impact. The social enterprise arose as a fusion of Sim
on's own experiences working as a professional musician and also working w
ith excluded young people. Simon identified that for the young people he w
as working with music could be used\, particularly music technology\, to v
ery rapidly create something tangible\, positive and credible. This experi
ence helps to build self-confidence - the fundamental building block for i
mproving lives. Noise Solution was established to develop this methodology
of working with excluded people including people with mental health probl
ems\, drug addictions and offending behaviour. Noise Solution has a number
of highly skilled tutors led by Simon\, who also continues to perform int
ernationally as a professional musician with the band Tunng.\n
