DESCRIPTION:Jane Jiang from Huddersfield University and the EPSRC Nationa
l Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Advanced Metrology (www.hud.ac.uk
/cimam) will share her research and thoughts with us. The seminar will di
scuss the underpinning infrastructure of surface manufacturing\, with an e
mphasis on shifts in developed technologies that have/will have a major ef
fect on improvements in its manufacturing capability\, for example\, surfa
ce design\, measurement and characterisation. The talk would focus on the
research work under her ERC Advanced Investigator Grant\, which leads to
a new era: Surface Infratechnology.\n\nJane is the Director of the EPSRC N
ational Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Advanced Metrology (www.hud
.ac.uk/cimam). Jane obtained her PhD in measurement science in 1995\, a Pr
ofessorial Chair in 2003\, a DSc for precision engineering in 2007 and a P
I and EPSRC Centre directorship in 2011.\n\nJane’s research mainly invol
ves development of mathematical models and algorithms for manufacturing me
trology and development of new optical interferometry techniques for futur
e embedded measurement sensor and instrumentation. She devotes her researc
h on underpinning manufacturing science\, especially in the creation of in
frastructure in geometrical products design\, processing control\, verific
ation in manufacturing.\n\nJane is a Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineerin
g (FREng) and a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Enginee
ring (CIRP). She was awarded a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award
in 2006 and the Sir Harold Hartley Medal in 2014. She was also awarded the
Freedom of the City of London in 2013.\n
