DESCRIPTION:The study of gravitational collapse is a subject of great impo
rtance\,\neither from an astrophysical\, fundamental or holographic point
of\nview. In this respect\, exact solutions can be very helpful but known\
nexamples are scarce\, especially when considering dynamical processes\nwi
th rotation.\nI will identify a convenient setup in which gravitational co
llapse of\nrotating matter shells can be addressed with analytic tools\, a
t the\nexpense of going to higher dimensions and considering equal angular
\nmomenta spacetimes. The framework for such exact studies is developed\,\
nrelying on the thin shell formalism.\nI will then discuss applications of
this machinery to confrontations\nof the weak cosmic censorship conjectur
e and to constructions of\nstationary solutions describing matter around r
 otating black holes.
