SUMMARY:How cold is dark matter? - Prof Martin Haehnelt\, Institute of Ast
 ronomy\, University of Cambridge

DESCRIPTION:The "temperature" of dark matter is very relevant for the form
ation of galaxies. I will discuss how the Lyman-alpha forest in high-resol
ution quasar absorption spectra can be used to constrain the "thermal" ve
locities and therefore the nature of dark matter. I will further briefly d
iscuss the use of quasar absorption spectra to constrain the variability
of fundamental constants now and in future with 30m-class telescopes like
 the ESO-ELT.
