DESCRIPTION:Given a finite group G\, Brauer asked if it was possible to\nd
 etermine from the character table of the group whether or not G has an abe
 lian Sylow p-subgroup for some prime p. In this talk we shall present a th
 eorem which gives a positive answer when p is not 3 or 5. In addition we s
 hall discuss the case for p = 3 and 5.
