  Doi:10.1038/nrn3546\nProteostasis in complex dendrites.\nHanus\, C. & Sch
uman\, E.M. Like all cells\, neurons are made of proteins that have charac
teristic synthesis and degradation profiles. Unlike other cells\, however\
, neurons have a unique multipolar architecture that makes ~10\,000 synapt
ic contacts with other neurons. Both the stability and modifiability of th
e neuronal proteome are crucial for its information-processing\, storage a
nd plastic properties. The cell biological mechanisms that synthesize\, mo
dify\, deliver and degrade dendritic and synaptic proteins are not well un
derstood but appear to reflect unique solutions adapted to the particular
 morphology of neurons.\n
