DESCRIPTION:I am interested in building robots that understand us and comm
 unicate with us in the way that people do. I envision a future where we tr
 eat robots as more than tools but as collaborators\; I envision a future w
 here robots can reason about our emotions\, as well as their own. What are
  the requirements for a social robot? Why do social robots matter? In my t
 alk\, I will discuss the vision for social robotics\, the fields motivatio
 ns\, and a case study of KISMET.  I will conclude with a  brief overview o
 f research at the MIT Media Lab’s Personal Robot Group since KISMET.
