SUMMARY:Structural Analysis of Genomic Scale Metabolic Networks - Dr David
  Fell\, Oxford Brookes University
DTSTART:20061030T133000Z
DTEND:20061030T143000Z
UID:TALK5769@talks.cam.ac.uk
CONTACT:Nicholas Luscombe
DESCRIPTION:I will outline the principles of metabolic modelling and the d
istinction between kinetic and structural models. Since kinetic modelling
is not yet practicable for large metabolic networks\, the rest of the talk
will focus on structural modelling techniques such as elementary modes an
alysis and enzyme subset analysis. I will illustrate the applications of t
hese techniques\, such as pathway discovery\, before considering some of t
he issues involved in scaling up to large networks based on genome annotat
ions and database information. Finally I will present evidence that struct
ural analysis can complement the annotation and transcriptional study of g
 enes for metabolic enzymes.
