DESCRIPTION:For understanding the magnetic properties of thin films the sp
atial distribution of magnetic domains in the films is important. They can
be imaged with the Photo-Emission Electron Microscope (PEEM) which is ele
ment-selective as it uses the ability to tune the incoming X-ray energy to
the absorption edge of interest. In the field of condensed matter\, Reson
 ant-Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS) and Angle-Resolved Photo-Emission Sp
ectroscopy (ARPES) are indispensable methods to examine the electronic and
magnetic excitations and the band structure. The basics of these methods
will be introduced and some examples will be discussed.
