DESCRIPTION:I begin the talk by giving a brief survey on the various geome
 tric and Sobolev-type inequalities and the role of entropy monotonicity an
 d isocapacitary estimates in establishing these inequalities. I will then 
 move on to presenting some ongoing work on the use of isocapacitary estima
 tes and Littlewood-Paley g-functions in establishing functional inequaliti
 es and finally describe some connections with Beurling-Ahlfors operator an
 d quasiconvexity in the plane.
