DESCRIPTION:I am mainly going to present the slides I \npresented at DAFX
2006 on GSM Buzz Removal. I will also touch on alittle \nbit on my latest
research on temporal masking and active noise canceling \naudio restoratio
 n if we have time.\n\n http://www.dafx.ca/proceedings/papers/p_303.pdf\n\
n http://www.dafx.ca/slides/slides_303.ppt\n\n In this paper we propose
an iterative audio restoration algorithm based on\nan autoregressive (AR)
model with modeling of the noise pulse template to\ndetect and restore Cel
l-phone electromagnetic interference (EMI) patterns\nknown as "GSM buzz".
The algorithm is\npurely software based and does not require the aid of an
y hardware providing\nside information. The only assumption is that indivi
dual pulses are similar\nto scaled versions of the known template. With th
is assumption\, the\nalgorithm can fully detect and restore noisy interfer
ence signals in real\ntime with almost no audible artifacts and improve th
e signal to noise ratio\nby as much as 50dB.\n
