DESCRIPTION:2015 is the International Year of Soil. From soil comes our fo
od\, fibre\, fuel and timber. Mineral soil formation is extremely slow\, a
nd any loss is best considered irreplaceable. Soils can be damaged in a nu
mber of ways\, one of which is erosion. The extent\, severity and impacts
of erosion in Britain will be described. \n\nSheep creating and eroding ba
re soil in the 1960s and a wet winter in 1968/69 got me interested in soil
erosion in both upland and lowland Britain. This interest has been mainta
ined to the present day from my early PhD research to researching and advi
 sing government\, commerce and non-governmental organisations. \n
