DESCRIPTION:I will be looking back on my thirteen years of political lobby
ing for the industry and examining how perceptions of our industry have ch
anged amongst the political class and the media\; how far the industry has
improved (or not) in the way it sells itself to these stakeholders and al
so the wider community\; and the threats and opportunities posed by an inc
reasingly litigious and protesting public and a possibly less courageous s
et of both national and local politicians.\n\n\nBiography:\n\nLiz is a wel
l-known figure in the property industry\, having served as Chief Executive
of the British Property Federation for thirteen years until her retiremen
t at the end of 2014. During that time\, she managed to change the Governm
ent’s perception of the commercial property industry\, to establish it a
s a key voice in policy debate\, to dissuade the Government from legislati
ng on commercial leases\, to win innumerable changes to planning and tax l
egislation and\, working as part of a pan-industry alliance\, to persuade
the Government to introduce real estate investment trusts (REITs). She was
awarded a CBE in the 2008 New Year Honours list for services to the prope
rty industry.\n \nPreviously\, she was a civil servant in the MOD\, eventu
ally becoming a key player in the team that created QinetiQ plc. \n \nLiz
is now embarking on a portfolio career\, including chairmanship of the pro
perty industry’s charity\, LandAid and of the property media company\, G
ood Relations Property. She is a non-executive director at Morgan Sindall
plc\, Redrow plc\, Howard de Walden Estates and Turley planning consultan
