DESCRIPTION:I will give an introduction to Generalised Geometry: This fair
 ly new extension of differential geometry allows us to generalise and unif
 y different structures on smooth and complex manifolds. String theory is a
  primary motivation for the study of generalised metrics\; using these\, i
 t is possible to describe massless string states in terms of a single geom
 etric object. Delving further into the theory\, we find a structure that e
 ncompasses the concepts of Poisson\, symplectic and complex geometry. In m
 y talk\, I hope to give an impression of this wealth of possibilities whic
 h generalised geometry offers to both mathematics and theoretical physics.
