DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will discuss user interface optimisation from t
 wo\nperspectives: 1) ensuring we are optimising a user interface in such a
 \nway that users perceive the performance benefit\; and 2) ensuring we\nar
 e approaching the design objectives correctly when optimising for\nperform
 ance. I will illustrate this discussion with two examples.\nFirst I will p
 resent a recent model we have developed which predicts\nwhether users can 
 detect performance differences in user interface\ndesigns. Thereafter I wi
 ll reveal a design for entering text on a\nsmart watch at over 40 words-pe
 r-minute on average using a regular\ntouchscreen QWERTY keyboard.
