DESCRIPTION:In my talk I will explore the idea that quantum point contacts
(QPCs) may be\nused as a controlled system for the confinement\, and mani
pulation\, of single\nelectron spins. Our experiments make use of a novel
geometry in which one\nQPC is used to provide electrical readout of the st
ate of another\, located\nin close proximity to it. Theoretical analysis i
n support of these\nexperiments suggests that this system may be used to d
etect the confinement\nof single spins. In my talk I present new experimen
tal results that provide\ndetailed insight into the microscopic properties
  of this novel localized\nspin.\n
