DESCRIPTION:Perhaps the most influential account of dopamine in cognition
attributes it a role in signalling reward prediction errors that are used
for temporal difference learning (Schultz\, Dayan & Montague (1997)). I wi
ll present recent computational and experimental work arguing that the res
emblance between phasic dopamine responses and reward prediction errors ma
y be largely phenomenological\, and that\, in any case\, dopamine is likel
y to play a broader role in belief formation.
