DESCRIPTION:Children's literature is full of food. We have favorite "food
scenes": All you have to do is think of a book\, and there is some special
treat or meal associated with it. But certain genres of children's lit us
e food to different effects. In the different college girl novels and book
series that became popular during the late-1800s-early 1900s in America\,
food was a specific kind of female community activity. Based on a larger-
scale cookbook and entertainment guide project\, I examine the particulars
around meals and food in college girl culture as portrayed in these turn-
of-the-century texts... and provide samples as well!
