DESCRIPTION:Quantum mechanics underlies our understanding of the physical 
 world\, but although it possesses a classical limit\, it shouldn't be thou
 ght of as just giving small deviations from the familiar rules of Newtonia
 n mechanics. In particular\, quantum tunnelling gives a remarkable example
  of a classical impossibility rendered possible in the real world. In this
  talk\, we'll look at a striking way to think about these effects which ge
 neralizes to applications to condensed matter\, particle physics and even 
 cosmology
