DESCRIPTION:Polynomial functors are the categorical analog of polynomial f
unctions on natural numbers: in other words just the functors constructed
from `sum' and `product' operations that can be defined for any locally ca
rtesian closed category. I will try to show that\, like polynomial functio
ns\, this class of functors contains a range of useful examples and can be
characterised in several ways. In particular I will look at the connectio
n between algebras of polynomial endofunctors and datatypes representing w
 ell-founded trees.
