DESCRIPTION:Future quantum communication networks profit from the use of
“hybrid” quantum systems which take advantage of the best features of
the involved platforms. In case of atom-photon hybrid systems these are: l
ong storage times\, fast processing capabilities\, high quality entangleme
nt and long-haul fiber transmission for photons in one of the telecom band
 s. I will present different techniques to interface single emitters such a
s trapped ions or semiconductor quantum dots with telecom photons\, based
on quantum frequency conversion of single photons and tailored\, narrow-ba
 nd single photon sources.
