DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge Centre for Climate Science would like to welcome
you to the first student symposium\, held at the Scott Polar Research Ins
titute (SPRI) on the 8th May 2015. This conference aims to bring together
the broad scientific research from students within the six University of
Cambridge departments\, SPRI and the British Antarctic Survey. The one day
event will consist of oral presentations and posters\, with lunch and ref
reshments provided. We also welcome Dr Emily Shuckburgh from BAS\, who wil
l be our guest speaker for the day. Whilst the main theme of the conferenc
e is ‘Climate Research’\, the day will be split into sessions on past\
, present and future climate. The programme will include research on (but
not be limited to) climate change\, meteorology\, ecosystem adaptation\, c
 limate modelling\, global teleconnections\, reconstructing past climates\,
ice shelf interactions\, ocean-atmosphere links\, boundary layer and turb
ulence\, evolution in a changing climate\, observations and data assimilat
ion\, cloud properties\, human-climate interactions and much more. Abstrac
ts will be taken from any masters or PhD level student\, with a climate-re
lated research project.\n\nAs this conference is specifically for students
to promote their research\, it is an excellent opportunity to gain experi
ence in communicating your science. This will be a great environment to pr
actice your oral presentations and prepare you for larger conferences. The
day will end with a wine reception which provides ample time to mingle wi
th your fellow students\, and refine those networking skills. This event (
and refreshments/lunch) is free for registered students\, and will be held
at the Scott Polar Research Institute on the 8th May 2015.\n\nAbstract su
