DESCRIPTION:One of the persistent laments of analysts focusing on the Kaza
khstan postsecondary education system is the absence of consistent\, and\,
in some cases\, reliable data for comparing institutions\, on the one han
d\, and\, on the other\, for generating a reliable summary of the postseco
ndary education system as a whole. The Kazakhstan Data Warehouse Project
 – a joint effort of the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Educati
on and the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education – is
a multi-year effort to solve both of these problems by developing and trai
ning individual institutions in the use of a multi-institutional data util
ity loosely modeled after the IPEDS data system in the United States. Robe
rt Zemsky of the University of Pennsylvania will describe the progress of
the Data Warehouse Project to date\, demonstrate its software\, and outlin
e the project’s training and development plans for the next two years.
