DESCRIPTION:Real plant cells come in all shapes and sizes. But what govern
s shape formation? What function do the cell shapes have? My research trie
s to answer these questions from a mathematical-physical perspective\, usi
ng maize as a model system.\nDuring my talk we will explore how the shape
of the epidermal cells varies during growth\, identify the best mathematic
al descriptors for quantifying cell shapes and discuss a number of experim
ents that help verifying hypotheses about formation and function.\n
