DESCRIPTION:Despite the urgency of climate change\,\nmost people never eve
 n mention the\nsubject. Understanding the ways in which\nthe human mind is
  equipped to defend\nus from unwelcome news can help us\napproach people d
 ifferently.\nWe will discuss some of the typical\npsychological defences t
 hat people use\,\nboth personally and publicly\, to avoid\ndealing with cl
 imate change\, describe the\ndistortions of reality that result from these
 \ndefences and describe our approach to\nhelping people face some difficul
 t truths.\nRosemary Randall and Andy Brown are\nthe authors of In Time for
  Tomorrow? the\nCarbon Conversations Handbook and\nco-founders of the nati
 onally recognised\nCarbon Conversations project.\nRosemary is a psychoanal
 ytically trained\npsychotherapist and group facilitator\nwho writes and le
 ctures widely on the\npsychological aspects of climate change.\nAndy is an
  engineer with a background\nin the social sciences\, a Director of\nCambr
 idge Architectural Research and a\nPassivHaus designer
