DESCRIPTION:A Winton teatime discussion hosted by Dr Anwar Gilani\, Patent
  Attorney at Venner Shipley.  Anwar has a BSc in Chemistry and PhD in orga
 nic chemistry and has many years experience in patenting across a wide ran
 ge of technologies including organic semiconductors\, clean technology\, m
 edical devices and pharmaceuticals.\n\nHe will provide a brief introductio
 n to what a patent is followed by a discussion of how patents are used\, i
 ncluding topical aspects of patents such as "patenting life"\, pharmaceuti
 cal patents\, patent "trolls"\, smartphone patent battles and the debate a
 s to whether patents help or hinder innovation.\n\nAll welcome to attend a
 nd light refreshments will be available.
