DESCRIPTION:Vehicular networks have been investigated by industry and acad
emia for over a decade yet no actual deployments are on the road today\; t
his due to inadequate technical solutions and a vertical market that slows
down innovation. Recent innovations in autonomous driving\, however\, ar
e reinforcing the case for connected vehicles able to communicate both V2I
and V2V in support of cooperative driving and machine-to-machine informat
ion exchange. \n\nIn this talk I will introduce V-NDN a network architect
ure that argues for an ICN based vehicular networks. Specifically we argue
for substituting IP with Named Data as thin waste for car-to-car and car-
to-infrastructure communications. V-NDN naturally enables anycast communi
cations and dynamically exploits multiple sources and multiple paths. We
will take a journey through V-NDN design and show how this radically new a
pproach is able to address the challenges of frequent connectivity disrupt
ions and sudden network changes typical of vehicular networks.
