DESCRIPTION:This presentation will compare and contrast the role of the in
 ternational community and regional efforts in these long running African c
 rises.  It will focus on the UN lead role in the DRC and the SADC lead rol
 e in Zimbabwe\, bearing in mind the UN Charter's provision for both intern
 ational and regional engagement and action.  What has worked and what are 
 the lessons for international policy makers and lawyers?\n\nAmbassador Mat
 thew Neuhaus was from January 2011 until March this year Australian Ambass
 ador to Zimbabwe\, and Australia's first Ambassador (non-resident) to the 
 DRC.  He has previously served as Political Director at the Commonwealth S
 ecretariat\, based in London\, from 2002-2008 and Australian High Commissi
 oner to Nigeria and Ghana and is at present a Visiting Fellow of the Laute
 rpact Centre.\n
