DESCRIPTION:Euclid is the next ESA mission devoted to Cosmology. The missi
on is expected to be launched in year 2020 and to last six years. The payl
oad comprises two instruments\, provided by the Euclid Consortium. Both ha
ve wide field capabilities hosting a visible and a near infrared camera\,
respectively\, which cover a joint field of view of half square degree. Th
e NIR instrument is also capable of slitless spectroscopy.\n\nThe main sci
entific aim is the study of Dark Energy and Dark Matter. These will be st
udied via gravitational lensing and clustering over ~15000 square degrees.
Since this area will cover most of the extragalactic sky\, the wealth of
data data will be extremely valuable to several areas in astrophysics. Ind
eed\, the sheer amount of data of different kinds\, the variety of (un)kno
wn systematic effects and the complexity of measures require novel efforts
both in simulations and techniques of data analysis.
