DESCRIPTION:From classical PDE analysis we know that the heat equation smo
othens out any\ninitial perturbation exponentially fast. But what happens
if the smoothing\nonly acts in a subset of directions and only at some pos
ition? For this a\ntypical example is the Fokker-Planck equation where the
noise only acts on\nthe velocity variable. For this I will discuss condit
ions for exponential\ndecay. This is an example of hypocoercivity as devel
oped by Villani to mimimic\nparts of hypoellipticity.
