DESCRIPTION:Emmy Noether published her paper on Conservation Laws for vari
ational problems in 1918. Her relatively short paper gives the complete\,
computational result yielding a conservation law for every Lie group symme
try of a Lagrangian\, as well as additional results where the symmetry is
that of a Lie pseudogroup. In this talk\, I will show results from two li
nes of research. One is using the new technology of Lie group based moving
frames to rewrite the laws in terms of invariants and an equivariant map\
, that is\, a moving frame. These results can be used to ease the integrat
ion problem of the Euler Lagrange equations in the examples. Another line
of research is that of the a priori embedding of Noether's laws into numer
ical schemes\, such as those for energy\, linear and angular momenta and p
otential vorticity\, which indeed turns out to be possible in a certain se
nse. The talk features joint work with Tânia Gonçalves (Goiás\, Brazil
) and Tristan Pryer (Reading\, UK).
