DESCRIPTION:The talk will focus on aspects of recent work with Xiong Jin. 
 We will first discuss generalised random cascade measures and sets which h
 ave some underlying self-similar structure that allows ergodic methods to 
 be applied. This leads to conclusions about the the geometric and dimensio
 nal properties of such sets and measures\, including fractal percolation s
 ets which are in turn used to establish properties of deterministic self-s
 imilar sets.
