DESCRIPTION:After beginning with a well-known conjecture on closed 3-manif
 olds between L-spaces and left-orderability\, I will introduce the notion 
 of taut foliations before sidestepping to manifolds with torus boundary.  
 I will then discuss some related and interesting ideas including Floer sim
 ple knots and manifolds\, Pseudo-Anosov homeomorphisms\, train tracks and 
 how these are related to the existence of foliations.  Time permitting\, I
  will end by briefly sharing the computational work that I've been doing w
 ith regards to these topics.
