DESCRIPTION:The 0.7-anomaly in 1D conductance has been the focus of many r
esearch efforts since its discovery\, however theoretical models have larg
ely failed to account for all experimental observations of the feature in
1D electron conductance. Furthermore\, few studies have addressed the prop
erties of the 0.7 anomaly in hole-based 1D devices. In this work\, we pres
ent measurements of the 0.7 anomaly in a GaAs quantum point contact. We de
monstrate that our measurements qualitatively bear striking similarities w
ith the recently proposed model of the 0.7 resulting from an enhanced loca
l density of states via a smeared van Hove singularity about the peak of t
he quantum point contact potential barrier.
