DESCRIPTION:*Looking for a tool to help you keep track of your research da
ta?*\n\nCome to the short lunchtime info session about OPUS - free tool de
veloped for you by researchers at the Computer Laboratory in Cambridge\, a
nd learn how to keep track of all your files and their modifications.\n\n*
What can Opus help you with?*\n\nEPSRC's open data requirements now mean i
t's necessary to track the data and metadata involved in the creation of e
very publication. Manual collection of this information is cumbersome\, te
dious and error prone while adding automatic collection is likely to be a
domain-specific\, time consuming and expensive exercise.\n\nAt the Compute
r Laboratory we have developed a system called OPUS that assists with the
task of data and metadata collection for Linux applications. OPUS seamless
ly and transparently monitors the programs run on machines and records a v
ariety of information such as the files that were accessed and the user ru
nning the program. This is achieved with negligible performance overhead.\
n\nWe have adapted OPUS to satisfy the EPSRC open data requirements. Durin
g the talk we will introduce OPUS\, show you how it can help you to meet E
PSRC's requirements and outline our plans for the future. We are looking f
or researchers who are interested in working with us\, we hope to deploy O
PUS onto your systems and then we will work closely with you to offer supp
ort and create tools focused on your use cases.\nCurrently we can only off
er OPUS to users on Linux platforms.\n\n*The event is open to everyone.*
