DESCRIPTION:The speakers will discuss designer receptors exclusively activ
 ated by designer drugs (DREADDs) that are increasingly being used to gain 
 control of G protein-coupled receptor  machinery in genetically and anatom
 ically defined subtypes of cells\, including neurons. After transgenic exp
 ression\, this approach allows selective stimulation or inhibition of the 
 cells by administering drugs that exclusively activate the designed recept
 ors. The speakers will also highlight common applications in the field\, p
 resent data from on-going experiments targeting neural circuitry\, and dis
 cuss recent developments in the chemogenetic tool box.
