DESCRIPTION:We have developed a set of new transition metal-catalyzed C-H
activation methodologies employing a silicon-tether motif. These methods
feature: (a) use of silyl group as a tether between a substrate and a reag
ent\, thus transforming intermolecular reaction into intramolecular reacti
 on\; (b) employment of a silicon-tethered directing group\, which is trace
less or easily convertable into valuable functionalities\; (c) use of sily
 l-tethered hydrosilane reagent\; and (d) introduction of new N/Si-chelatio
n concept that allows for a remote activation of aliphatic C-H bonds.\n\n\
nThe scope of these transformations will be demonstrated and the mechanism
 s will be discussed.
