DESCRIPTION:Many cross-species studies attest that innovation frequency (n
 ovel food types eaten and foraging techniques used) is a measure of behavi
 oral flexibility and show that it positively correlates with relative brai
 n size (corrected for body size). I investigated behavioral flexibility di
 rectly in three bird species that vary in innovation frequency and relativ
 e brain size\, and found that it does not correlate with either variable. 
 These results challenge long-standing assumptions and question the use of 
 proxies for behavioral flexibility.
