DESCRIPTION:Jan has 40 years management experience in the NHS\, 20 as an N
 HS CEO in a wide variety of contexts and organisations. He has been descri
 bed as “one of the great NHS managers of his generation” (Editor\, HSJ
 )\; ”a serial improver of failing hospitals“ (citation for ‘hero of 
 the NHS’)\; and “a truly great manager” (commentator Roy Lilley).\n 
 \nJan is also the author of “Too Good To Fail?”\, shortlisted for Mana
 gement Book of the Year 2014 and begun when Jan spent a year at the Judge 
 Business School as an NHS University Fellow\; and this year articles on th
 e problems of the NHS in the BMJ\, the Guardian and for the Institute of H
 ealthcare Management. He was interviewed on ITN news earlier this month ab
 out the current NHS financial problems.\n \nHe will be talking about how s
 erious the present situation in the NHS is\, the conflicting and contradic
 tory requirements it currently faces\, the mismatch between supply and dem
 and at the heart of the problem\, what is wrong with the current NHS busin
 ess model\, and how to get the right one.\n \nJan’s talk will be of inte
 rest to doctors\, nurses and other healthcare professionals\, to managers 
 and economists\, and to anyone who cares about the future of the NHS.
