DESCRIPTION:The surface properties of the pnictogens bismuth (Bi) and anti
mony (Sb) have been of great interest to the development of the newly foun
d material class of topological insulators. As has recently been shown by
the group of El-Batanouny in Boston\, the vibronic structure of topologica
l materials as measured by helium atom scattering is heavily influenced by
its special surface electronic structure. Since these electronic peculiar
ities are already present in its base materials Bi and Sb\, it is not surp
rising that their surface vibronic properties are anomalous as well. Elast
ic and inelastic helium scattering results as well as their theoretical in
terpretation will be presented and discussed.
