DESCRIPTION:Studying the coupling between spins of charge carriers and nuc
lear spins is a rapidly expanding field due to possible application for qu
antum information processing. Although there have been some electrical st
udies of the hyperfine coupling for holes in GaAs\, most studies probed ho
les optically in self-assembled quantum dots.\n\nPreviously we compared el
ectron-nuclear and hole-nuclear spin coupling through the breakdown of the
quantum Hall effect in a narrow one-dimensional constriction. However\, t
his method relies on detecting a small change in the sample resistance (<1
%). In this work we use a much more sensitive technique (a Landau level di
ode) to detect hole-nuclear spin coupling electrically. Nevertheless we ob
serve no detectable net nuclear polarization\, indicating that hole-nuclea
r spin flip-flop processes are suppressed by at least factor of 50 compare
 d to GaAs electron systems.\n
