DESCRIPTION:The talk advocates that there should be no sanctions against a
cademics who argue unpopular or controversial points of view. In my own ca
reer I have defended the position that differences in IQ between races are
not due to genetics. While I disagree with my opponents’ views\, I beli
eve they have a right to argue their position. Those who endorse the contr
ary must defend at least one of three indefensible propositions: you ought
not believe what you think may be true\; you ought not attempt to persuad
e those who may be in error\; you ought not to use the scientific method t
o enhance belief in the truth.
