DESCRIPTION:Jonathan Halls\, VP Technology development at Tonejet will be
telling (and showing) us about Tonejet's unique electrostatic printer whic
h has been gaining popularity with the craft beer 'revolution' in America.
\n\n*Tonejet* uses a unique nozzle-less electrostatic technology which has
followed a unique route to commercialisation and is now being used for di
gitally printing craft beer cans\, faster than any other printer.\n\nConve
ntional printers apply a pressure to force fluid through a nozzle\, wherea
s Tonejet uses an unconventional technique of electrostatic ejection. In t
his approach\, electrically charged pigment in ink is ejected in droplets
by applying an opposing electriccharge on an array of sharp points over wh
ich ink flows. This results in very small droplets of pureink which provid
e extremely thin printed coatings.\n\nThe result is high-quality print at
high speeds on virtually any type of substrate without the need for pre-co
ating. Tonejet is part of TTP Group\, one of Cambridge's technology develo
pment companies which have created several other printing companies includ
ing Domino\, Xaar and Xennia.\n\nJonathan's talk and tour of Tonejet's man
ufacturing facilities will discuss the technology itself\, as well the unc
onventional story of its commercialisation from an Austrialian laboratory
to application in new markets today.\n\n*Dr Jonathan Halls* is VP Technolo
gy in Tonejet. In this role\, Jonathan leads Research and Development acro
ss the organisation\, with wide-ranging activities including ink product d
evelopment\, printhead and system innovation and image processing. Prior t
o joining Tonejet\, Jonathan was CTO and co-founder of Solar Press Ltd\, a
developer of low-cost\, flexible printed solar panels. Before that\, and
following from his Physics PhD at the Cavendish Laboratory\, Cambridge\, h
e worked at Cambridge Display Technology Ltd\, the pioneer of inkjet-print
ed\, polymer-OLED technology. In this role he led the Strategic Innovation
Group\, the focus of next generation printed electronics research in the
 company.\n\nDate: Wednesday 9th September 2015\n\nTime: Refreshments serve
d from 18.30. Talk starts at 18.45. Ends by 20:30 following tour\, questio
ns and discussion.\n\nVenue: The Talking Point at The Technology Partnersh
 ip\, Melbourn Science Park\, Melbourn\, SG8 6EE ("directions":http://www.t
tp.com/contact-us).\n\nParking: Ample parking is available on-site.\n\nFre
e to attend. Booking not required.\n\nThis talk is open to the public and
is suitable for young people\, students and engineers. You are encouraged
to pass on this invitation and bring with you colleagues\, friends and fam
ily who are interested in printing\, craft beer and new technology.\n\n"Ev
