DESCRIPTION:The dimer model is a model of statistical mechanics correspond
 ing to perfect matchings on graphs. I will first give a survey of classica
 l results about the dimer model on planar bipartite graphs.\n\nThen I will
  introduce the class of rail yard graphs which generalizes several known m
 odels\, such as the Aztec diamond or plane partitions. I will explain how 
 to compute the partition function and the correlations for rail yard graph
 s using a transfer matrix approach.\n\nThis is joint work with Cédric Bou
 tillier\, Jérémie Bouttier\, Guillaume Chapuy and Sylvie Corteel.\n
