DESCRIPTION:After completing his PhD. in applied statistics at Princeton U
 niversity\, Dr Kerstein worked for 35 years at Sandia National\nLaboratori
 es in Livermore\, CA. He joined the Combustion Research\nFacility at Sandi
 a shortly after its establishment and later became a\nDistinguished Member
  of the Technical Staff. He applied statistical\ntechniques to a wide rang
 e of combustion and fluid flow problems\nincluding spray combustion\, coal
  combustion\, and solid propellant\ncombustion. Dr Kerstein is a Fellow of
  the American Physical Society\nand a past member of the editorial board o
 f Physical Review\, and he has\nserved on the science boards of astrophysi
 cs and energy research\nconsortia. He has authored or co-authored over 120
  journal publications.\nSince his retirement in 2012\, Dr Kerstein has ser
 ved as a consultant to\nacademic and research institutions.
