DESCRIPTION:Bose-Einstein condensation has been studied in different syste
ms in the last years. One of them are photons trapped in a cavity\, where
thermalization is achieved by thermal contact to a dye medium. Unlike the
"usual" atomic BEC\, here the dye molecules serve both as a heat and a par
ticle reservoir\, and grandcanonical experimental conditions can approxima
tely be realized in this system\, where the condensate shows large number
fluctuations.\n\nIn my talk\, I will give an overview on the properties of
the photon condensate. First\, I will give an introduction on the photon
BEC\, and then discuss the thermodynamic properties of the photons. Follow
ing this\, I will present measurements on the dynamical properties of the
condensate\, including the large number fluctations expected in the grand
canonical regime and the formation dynamics of the condensate.\n
