ltate as a possible example. - Dr. Jospeh Betouras\, Dept. of Physics\, Lo

DESCRIPTION:Topological transitions of the Fermi Surface (Lifshitz) is an
old concept\, that has started playing a fundamental role in the physics o
f many quantum systems. The effects of interactions remain unresolved. In
this talk\, after introducing the main concepts of Lifshitz as well as Pom
eranchuk instabilities of the Fermi surface as well as a proposal for a co
ld atom experiment\, I will focus on the recent physics of sodium cobaltat
es (NaxCoO2) exposed under the hypothesis of a Lifshitz transition.
LOCATION:Mott Seminar Room (531)\, Cavendish Laboratory\, Department of Ph
